Update: 04/23/08 @ 1:28 PM MST
We forgot to relay this update across on this page (it actually happened yesterday), but BleachExile has opted to remove the credit pages for every single MangaShare, Binktopia, bludshock, and #blood release we've done. Not only is this a disrespect to the hundreds of hours of time we've dedicated, it's a slap across the face of all the public translators, raw providers and helpers along the way. As you may also be aware, they have deleted & censored discussion on their website, claiming that MangaShare posted "PHP Viruses" on their vBulletin. I'm sure Jelsoft would be interested to know that their million dollar web application that has been invulnerable to this type of attack for years was compromised because our vendetta against BleachExile is so strong that we took our frustrations out on their members though this impossible method. It definitely wasn't a ruse to hide to truth because their topics were not going so well... [/sarcasm]
BleachExile - Disseminating the Facts
This page will be updated as the issue progresses. Since a thread has appeared on their forums attempting to play down how they're screwing the scanlation and fansubbing communities, I felt it was necessary to outline a few facts here. BleachExile is welcome to debunk anything I post here with hard evidence rather than just resorting to name calling, like calling Binktopia "bitches" or "LQ scanlators" or DDoS attacks (I wouldn't put it past them...).
First let me explain the reasoning behind Binktopia's new harsher mirror policies since that seems to be a hot topic. We've honestly come to the point where we don't trust anybody to upload the work we do without ulterior motives. And it is work, let me make that clear, we may as well be punching in a clock every Thursday as we're here every week working from the evening into the afternoon the next day to bring you your latest manga chapters. We continue to do it because we enjoy scanlating. Put yourself in our shoes though; Let's say your values were that manga should be free and easily accessible for everybody, and some chump comes along, establishes a website and decides that his product will be your free manga chapter. He preys on ignorant newcomers who don't know any better and he builds a commercial community (of fanboys) around this who defend his establishment. Doesn't that just piss you off? Well it pisses us off, and rather than having a list of good sites that are allowed to mirror us, it's easier just to ask people not to redistribute it.
I'll trust your judgment on how you interpret everything on this page. I have enough faith in the leechers to believe that it will be enlightening to at least a few of them. Let's start with the post that spurred this response:
I really don't see how claiming that they removed our credit pages can be construed any way other than fact -- they removed it from Bleach -105 and D.Gray-man 156 (update: and our latest One Piece, Katekyo Hitman Reborn and Psyren scanlations too). I can't lie about that because the pages were there when they downloaded it off our site and were not there when they uploaded it to their site. They seem to be very proud of this fact and will openly advertise that they strip Binktopia credits.
This is NOT the first time we have had problems with BleachExile removing our credits pages. Last year when we ran the widespread NarutoFan page (click here) BleachExile responded by removing that page as well as our credits page. Dyne gave the ultimatum to stop running that page or he will remove it every time. Unfortunately I can't screenshot that because they deleted the topic on their forum (perhaps anticipating this), but it was a 6-8 or so page thread so I'm sure enough people recall it to support this claim.
One of our admins (Woofcat) talked to starkana about the recent credit page removal. This fellow has his hands in several shady manga sites, including NarutoFan and of course, BleachExile. If you were wondering why both those sites looked exactly the same (before NF redesigned recently), use the same/similar scripts, are hosted at the same place, and run the same German? advertisements... look no further than this guy.
We'd originally included the quote above in our public service announcement but opted a more reasonable approach would be to include the links to MangaUpdates and MangaHelpers as alternative means to obtain your manga; Informing the community rather than promoting their childish response. Dyne & friends jumped on this opportunity to claim we removed it because it was fabricated, demanding an apology (see below).
Our PSA was posted AFTER the credits pages were removed... Was that a lie I just saw there? I think it was!
If you weren't already convinced that NarutoFan is in bed with BleachExile and at the end of the tunnel the same people are running both establishments, maybe the following will help. Notice how both sites are hosted on the same IP addresses.
Update: Dyne claims the ips are the same because they use the same host. So let me get the straight, he claims his servers are dedicated but he is sharing them with NarutoFan at the same time? Ohhh ok... That makes sense (as if). You get the same IP because you're on the same box. Nice try, my friend.
Anyway, let's look at their donation goals. $1,600 is actually a pretty reasonable goal for a popular website which serves large media files (like anime episodes). I'm not debating that. It becomes a problem when in less than a week at the start of every month (as confirmed by "Vic" on his blog on BE), they meet that goal and continue to blindly take donations. Nobody knows for sure how much money they make after that because they don't publish it - but I think it's safe to say they continue to take money at a similar rate throughout the month.
Update: We've received several tips users which all generally tell the same story. BleachExile is hosted for free by a man named "Martin", and he covers his expenses with the German advertisements that you see up on their sites (not starkana as previously thought). What this means is all of the donations and advertisement revenues go directly into dyne's pocket.
They literally have ads all over their website. They serve multiple pop-up and popunder windows on their manga reader on a 4 hour cookie timeout. They have 4 ad blocks on each page load. Take a look at their webstats:
[link]
With that many daily visitors seeing that volume of ads on top of their large donation goals, do you REALLY think that this is a legitimate operation? That they really run the amount of servers needed to justify that kind of revenue? Compare it to MangaShare's webstats:
[link]
Our ad revenue in march with that traffic was $788.61, and we run 1 ad unit for members on the reader, 2 ad units for guests on the reader, and 1 unobtrusive ad on the main site. We have 0 ads on the forums. If we can manage to cover almost 80% of our server fees by being that stingy, I wonder what they're managing? Considering they use the same ad company... Proof of our revenue is included below, CTR and whatnot blacked out due to advertiser policies.
Now let's touch on their server claims.
I guess the thing that stands out to me the most is that they run "5 or 6" forum servers. Firstly because it sounds like he's just pulling that number out of his ass. The second part is that MS at times has 10x the currently active users, and we run stable on a whopping 1 forum web server, 1 database server. But wait, there's more! We also host the main website (manga tracker) which serves thousands of concurrent users on release days on that same server. Let's take a look:
Bleach Exile
MangaShare
Next we successfully serve around 200,000 direct downloads per week. Roughly 100,000 of those are on Fridays alone. What kind of machine power do we need to accomplish that volume of requests? If you guessed 1 server, you are correct. Heck, if we wanted we could pay a few extra dollars per month to get 20 spare IPs from our datacenter, assign "dl01 to dl20" .mangashare.com to each IP and pretend we're running 20 download servers and suddenly need $1600 in donations... but that wouldn't be very honest now would it?
Running 60 sub-domains on 37 unique IP addresses when they claim they run 30 ("or 31") servers only goes to show that they're no strangers to this method. Now how many of those IPs point to the same box I wonder? How many are virtual dedicated servers (very cheap alternative popular at FDC where a lot of these IPs are located)? Unfortunately there's no way to know for sure, but this is the part where common sense kicks in and you realize how much bullshit they are full of.
I implore you as the fan to make wise decisions when seeking anime and manga online. When you support a site like BE you are only supporting their greed. When you're seeking the latest manga chapter, visit the scanlators sites, most groups nowadays have websites with direct downloads anyway.
Good sites to grab the latest manga:
Most groups will post their new releases on the following sites right when they are completed. Not only are you supporting the scanlator but you are also getting the manga as fast as possible. I know there are other good intentioned sites out there but these are the 3 biggest ones.

We received 26 emails in the last 24 hours with those users own personal accounts. All of them were read and some of them were shared below but it's become a little time consuming to update this page so please relay your thoughts on this thread. Some of the emails which were published are available below.
* #1. An informed user at the BE community that wishes to remain anonymous points out that Tazmo and Dyne are different people. He/she also confirmed that the 5/6 server claim on the forum is bull and he does in fact collect donations over and above his goal. Not too much we didn't already know. your guys' feedback if it applies.
* #2. Another informed user has dropped the bombshell that bleachexile is in fact being hosted for free in exchange for all those German ads on their site. Interesting.
* #3. "My alias is Cypress, I am a former active member and poster from Bleach Exile; that forum is a shithole. Most (definitely not all) admins and mods there abuse their powers and are complete assholes, Dyne of course being one of them. The reason why I left was because one day I had just had enough of mods abusing their powers and just took it all out on one particular mod (Aya, now an admin) and got banned for it. Dyne is not only an asshole, but he also uses donation money for his own personal benefits. I still remember the day when he was joking about how he used some donation money for buying pizza."
* #4. "I was reading you're little manifesto, and I pretty much completely agree with you. I'm a member of BE, but I have never, nor do I ever, plan on donating for the simple reason that I feel that the work should be free since you guys do it for free. I just wanted to point out that they also took out you're credit page on, in my opinion, the most important manga of the week- OnePiece."
* #5. "I for one am a past scanlator and have been appalled by people/sites such as Tazmo/NarutoFan and as such, hearing there was another problem with people like this I read your whole article on the matter. I believe the evidence is credible, and the fact that BE isn't even making this a public issue (informing their own users of the incident) without even backing their side of the story with any credible evidence. It is shameful to see people using manga that we scanlators have worked so hard on only to have the credits page, the only thing we scanlators can use as proof of our hard work and effort thrown away. I have recently visited BE and it's forums. Their thread on this issue is simply APPALLING. Mangashare not only represents those in the American community but those internationally as you guys release international releases. I also believe I speak for everyone who has ever once scanlated, that we work our ass off for these leechers at BE who show no sign of thanks (for the most part) and calling the teams of MS; I quote "LQ scanlators" (Vic - Page 2, Post 2 BE Forums Binktopia shows dislike of Bleach Exile)
It's one thing for a person to speak out in public against something which they believe but no person has the right to mock and tarnish something that does not belong to them, and insult them when they put so much time and effort into a project. Users like Kigen of Bleach Exile are a prime example of what I'm talking about. A LEECHER who has no idea of the hard work scanlators put into their manga scanlating. What's more is that, from what I've read the thread regarding this issue on BE and all BE does is avoid the matter at hand rather than confront it and put an end to it. They see this as "free advertisement" but really, if it weren't for these "LQ Scanlators" half of the manga those of BE and the rest of the manga community would have, is raws. I don't give a damn if they're joking when the insult you/us to put a dent in our morality but if you call people like Binktopia who put out HIGHER quality releases than average, that's just being plain ignorant.
I believe that BE should simply just stop using the Binktopia releases and leave it at that. I have no idea how this turned out to be a war over manga being "sold" or in this case donated, but this issue should be resolved in a longer time line than that of the binktopia issue. If BE doesn't want to comply with waiting for M7 releases, then that's only as good as mocking the scanlators of Bink as well as a whole community. If it happened to Bink, who says it can't happen to the rest of the groups."

* #6. "I think i know why Dyne's statements towards Naruto Fan were so harsh. I know for a fact that he used to be, if not still is, apart of Naruto Fan. Well, in the forums anyways. While searching on google one day, i wanted to see how popular Bleach Exile really was. I searched for a specific topic to see if anyone hated BE at all. While searching for this i came across an old thread from Naruto Fan about what the best bleach site was. In it, Dyne, formerly Demonfox51, advertises for his upcoming website called Bleach Exile. If you look over that the ID name you can tell that he had been banned. After a couple anti-BE statements Dyne started criticizing peoples browsers. He later created a new ID named Dyne, and once again promoted his site. I am currently a member at Bleach Exile, and what Dyne did there was a huge no-no at BE, a double account. Apparently, Dyne was so hurt by the banning at Naruto Fan that he obviously could not let it go. As you can see from that screen shot in the article on your page. Here is the link to that thread in question
[link]
Dyne has openly stated that he does not care about the members of his forum. He has said that it does not matter to him what we think and that the only thing he worries about is the main site and the people that donate. This is a quote from one of the higher ups on the site about how Dyne runs the place:
"Here is a newsflash guys, Dyne is the owner, period. Where you people get off telling him what he can and can't do is beyond me. He can do w/e the hell he wants and there is nothing you can do about it, its his fucking site. BE has 315000 members and counting, it takes less than a week to bring in $1600 from donations, nothing you people do will stop this. These forums don't matter to Dyne, he doesn't make any money off of them, they are like a bonus for us. The comments pages, people get all offended by the way they are treated there..o well. They make up less than 1% of the membership, they are irrelevant"
I apologize for this extremely long email, but i thought that it was important to bring up Dyne's ties to Naruto Fan. I think that what he is doing is another way for him to show his "Authority". If it wasn't for the people that actually translate and scan the manage, Dyne's website would be nothing more then a piggyback of Datebayo that offers direct anime downloads. Removing the credits until he has an "apology" is incredibly childish, even for someone of Dyne's mental capacity. What he is doing is wrong and completely uncalled for. He obviously was picked on in highschool/life to some point, and he goes to his site to more less control the happiness or sadness of others because he obviously can't in his actual life. I believe that he is ripping off the people that donate tremendously. Back when i first joined Bleach Exile a couple months ago, I remember seeing that the donation request was at maybe 300-400 and now raised that more then 4 times his old goals. I think that he is scamming and stealing money from these Bleach Fans and im sure he does not stop collecting money from people after the goal is met.
I will end with this. Search through those posts that Dyne/Demonfox51 has on Naruto Fan. They might provide some insight into Dyne's despicable character."
